WELCOME TO THE
SALEM VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY
JUNIOR FIREFIGHTERS
A Junior Firefighter is anyone who wants to become a Senior Firefighter, EMT or Fire-Police. Junior firefighters consist of boys/girls ages 13-18. For those who feel that there is nothing to do in town, this is your opportunity to get involved in your community. A Junior Firefighter helps out the trained firefighters and learns the basic skills of firefighting and the tools used. You will learn how to fill and use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), which is on all the trucks, and procedures of the fire department. You will also learn leadership, teamwork, communication, respect, self-discipline, and the reward of knowing that you are helping others from danger. Junior meetings are held on the first & third Mondays of each month unless otherwise posted.
School always comes before the Junior Department. If you or your parents are worried about safety, in the Junior Department safety is always first. You are never forced to do things you do not want to. Juniors are well-protected and looked after while they are helping us serve the community.
If you have any questions or would like more information regarding the Salem Volunteer Fire Company's Junior Firefighters Program, please contact the Station.
